memory

i'm sorry about neglecting this blog :( i feel like i have no time to do anything yet i manage to spend so much time procrastinating ...

anyway i just remembered this memory which amuses me but isn't really interesting. i just thought i'll make it a post and i'll keep doing this for any random memory which i retrieve :)

i just realised that my writing must be a pain for Catherine to read :( sorry :( i will stop .... now :)

My family had just finished visiting the Forbidden City in Beijing, but when we were about to leave apparently they sealed the main exit route for the lowering of the flag at sunset. We would have stayed and watched the ceremony, but the sunset was in quite a while (at least an hour). While trying to find another exit, we ended up finding ourselves in a Hutong and we had no idea where we were :\

So naturally I decide to ask someone where the nearest metro station was - our hotel was right next to a metro station. I asked an elderly lady beside me in my appalling mando 'Excuse me, where's the nearest metro station' and then the lady gave me a weird look and said with an accusing tone “你问我,我问谁呢?” which directly translated means "If you're asking me, who do I ask?".

Upon turning to my mum and dad in a bit of a shock, I saw that they were laughing at me ... unknowingly we had found ourselves a spot in the middle of a tourist group! (We were travelling individually).

Haha the story is pretty lame because there isn't much substance in it, but thinking about it makes me grin so I thought that I should share it with you guys :) I was also thinking about compiling a novella about anything I can remember from my primary school life ... but naturally I haven't got anything further than the title page and one sentence. Where does all my time go?!?!

四个故事

so yesterday i was talking to vanessa during oral prep about this story i wrote years ago on holiday in china (probably around year 3? year 2?) which i ran across while i was looking through my drawers looking for a red pen.

it turns out that it was much shorter than what i recall it to be ... i thought it was a pretty long story but when i read it just then it was ... amazingly short. maybe i thought it was a longish story when i wrote it but now what with how much we're meant to write in exams it seems ... not so.

here it is word for word (grammar mistakes and all):

LOVE That is FAKE (then i drew a heart with a heart inside it and another heart inside that etc ...)

In a school named 'Stoneybrook Elementary School', there was two two group of people in it.
One group has bad people and the other has good people.
These groups have about 445 people in each group.
The bad people are lucky to be in this school because this is a high rated school so that you can sleep in the school if you want to.
A girl in the bad group and a boy in the good group decided to go to Rockmate Land on Sunday 12pm but they did not know the other group is going as well.
When they reached to the train station, all the bad people passed the yellow line when the train was coming.
The good people each rescued one bad person but when they were doing it, they accidentally looked at each others eyes and the bad people turned into good people.

end of story. and no, i didnt write end of story in the story. well yeah. i have no idea why i started a new paragraph with every line. haha when i'm bothered i'll probably take a photo of the little sheet of paper i wrote it on ohohoho.

10 hours of my life

i have finally learnt how to knit! thanks to this video and its awesome teaching.

i'm going to make a scarf! cause obviously it's the easiest thing to make cause it's just a rectangle. i'm  using the garter stitch because ... it's the easiest stitch around 8D

anyway. yeah. i started about three days ago and im really slow so i've only gotten a bit. i've been knitting when i'm bored and while watching asian dramas :D yeah, that should accumulate to over 10 hours. i took a photo this morning of how much i'd done ...

you can see mistakes in the pattern :L
but i did about another 10 to 20 minutes afterwards so it's a bit longer now :D

yeah, excited when i finally finished (likely to be like Christmas or something considering the pace in which im going now) :)

and and and my cousin made me (well, not really. introduced and encouraged me) make an account on 微博 ... which is really asian twitter hohohoho. and yeah, i really suck at it and i got annoyed cause someone actually took the username (website name thingy) jenniferhuo.

JENNIFERHUO. it's not the most common name around.

and and and someone had this joke/cool thingo (you know what i mean?) and it went like this:

girl: what does ABCDEFG mean?
boy: it means a boy can do everything for girl.
girl: 8D (i added this line in myself)

and i knew it was meant to be romantic and all, but then i couldnt help noticing that it isnt gramatically correct. and i was like D: you can only miss the a when ... it's a plural! yeah exactly! so why didn't they make it a plural? tch i'm a genius. until i realised it would turn out like this:

a boy can do everything for girls.

which is not really romantic to say the least. but ironically ... it seems just as true as the original (maybe even more so), albeit it being able to destroy a relationship. yeah, that's how my brain worked.

30/09/09

I’m two days behind in homework. This morning … we ate breakfast in a shop across the road. It was ok … except I loved the fried thick thingos. I’ve eaten them in Australia before … they go with soup. When I was eating I saw a big, red ant with wings gliding along the surface of the window sill next to me. It was a queer sight. Looking closer, I found out that it was actually a smaller ant the size of half the larger ant’s head pushing the supposedly dead larger ant home. It was a slow process but I really was amazed at the strength of the smaller ant! I really wanted to take a picture but I knew the smaller ant wouldn’t show up on the camera – it was teenie. Soon, the ants disappeared into a gap in the wall.

Then, grandma, grandpa and my brother went back home (once again) and aunty 2, mum and I went shopping. Soon, we returned home cause we knew Winyi (my cousin) had arrived. She goes to university and I came home seeing her peel grapes, unseeding them and popping them into my 10 year old brother’s mouth. We played Mr and Mrs Scribble a few times but ended up going out again, leaving grandma and grandpa behind. We shopped along the entire of Beijing Road, spent a few hours at Giordano and ate dinner at Lucky Restaurant.

When we finished eating dinner we waited, waited AND WAITED for a lift … and finally, when we boarded one, something funny happened. The lift went over weight. Someone got off and we went down. There was a … quite plump boy on the lift and a little girl who was also on the lift say quite loudly “I know who’s the heaviest on the lift! It’s my brother!” And at that moment I seriously felt really sorry for him. It must have been a very embarrassing moment and would’ve lowered his self esteem quite a bit. Anyway, we were out for a few hours – returning home at around 10:30. I was exhausted. I still have to shower and skip a day’s worth of homework (oh well – I can always catch up on it later) … so I really should get off the computer. Bye :)

28/09/09

Today was another not-so-interesting day. Mum curled her hair at the salon today … it’s SO CURLY now. It would’ve looked like she had an afro if it was a bit more curly. Um … in the morning we went to the restaurant downstairs to have a breakfast yum cha.

Then, we went and played in an Asian version of Galaxy world.

We went back upstairs, and after going back down again to give a family friend’s relative something from them, we loitered in Hengbao Plaza and shopped a bit. When I went back up, my brother had monopolized the computer and I was left listening to music and lying around. Just as I took my work outside to do it, my grandpa turned on the TV so I decided to watch the news since I wouldn’t be able to concentrate. Dinner was made by grandma, and I hogged the computer after that. I was meant to be doing my work … and guess what I ended up typing?

27/09/09

Boring. Tedious. Workaholic. Guess what? I spent the entire day working on my English ‘MERCHANT OF VENICE’ essay. I woke up at around 8, dressed and prepared for breakfast which was a delicious noodles shop a few minutes walk from home. Then I went back home and worked and worked taking breaks to eat or rest. THEN Winyi (my cousin) came over … and I took a couple hour's break with her … which was cool. We told each other the worst jokes, went through her bag , downloaded phone themes from the internet and talked about Lady Gaga.

Turns out Lady Gaga and Avril Lavigne are quite famous over here.

Then hotmail didn’t work just when I needed to email it to Amanda! I was hyperventilating … until it worked a few minutes later. And after finishing my work I went to bed with the air conditioning on 28°C.

26/09/09

Hello everyone (= I’m writing this in China … but since I can’t access blogger.com there I’m gonna post these posts when I’m back. So. Today I woke up at 6:30 and got everything ready (you know – luggage and last minute checks) and left home at around 7:20. Then, after my dad drove me to the airport, I hugged and kissed him (no tears … obviously) and then went in. After checking in, we (my brother, mum and I) browsed the duty-free shops … then bumped into Sherry’s family! We knew they were going to take our plane, but didn’t expect to bump into them. And guess what we talked about?

Haha … about senpais and wanna bes.

The plane trip took over 10 hours – it was also delayed by 2 hours. I realized that every time I get on a plane it’s ALWAYS delayed. I got to China by 7:30 – ish (local time) and was forced to eat. I was so full – I ate dinner on the plane not long ago. At 11:00 (1:00am EST) my eyes were drooping at their own accord. So I showered, brushed my teeth and went to bed. The air conditioning was at 29°C.
