work experience day 4!

like always, i tell myself to make a blog post yet i get delayed by hours cause i get so distracted by other people's blogs! everyone's posts are so wonderful and they make you feel good :')

today i had to do the coversheets for next thursday. thursday is the callover day or something so it's got the most paperwork ... today I overheard Kay say that there was 'only' 140 today to go through ... so we attended call over at 9:00. it ended at 11:30 and this time I helped a bit more (not just sitting in the corner) because I helped Kay give out some bail continuance sheets and photocopied some court list thingo :| but this time wasn't as interesting as monday's :(

monday's was much more interesting even though i just sat there for the whole time ...

see? literally in the corner of the room. on a chair. with no armrest. no table.
Kay is the court officer and a guy called Lance is the registrar :) they're both super nice.
on monday there were some solicitors who came to adjourn (i think this means postpone) hearings ... but a large proportion were people who were asked if they were gonna plead guilty or not guilty. so it was really interesting listening to their conversation with Lance and trying to figure out whether they were guilty or not. they'd try and explain and argue and stuff so it was cool. but today the call over was 30 minutes longer and basically every single one of them was the person saying 'I still need to find a legal representative ... I have an appointment on 30 November.' then Lance will adjourn the hearing to 1 December. that was it. far less interesting :(

so i spent almost the rest of the day just doing the cover sheets. i find it amusing how there's a name that seems to pop up every single time ... this person must have been in court quite a few times =/ at 3 Kay said that she'd do the rest of next thursday's papers and that I should go to another lady and work with her. it was computer work! she was telling me about stuff that i'd learnt a little about in commerce and ipt and it was cool :) she was saying how large the database must be cause it holds all the data on all cases that the state deals with, etc. etc. she also taught me about adding a civil claim onto the database and how to do stuff on it. the thing is, i slept late yesterday night so i really wanted to yawn but i knew it would be really impolite to yawn. but i couldnt just clamp my mouth shut and use my lip muscles to secure it together cause i'd look pokerfaced and that's impolite too. so i gritted my teeth really really really hard so i could still smile but not yawn. omg i felt like an idiot. if anyone was watching me i would seem like such a horrible person! the moment the lady turned around i would yawn and when she turned back i would just blink away the tears and just smile :) omg, luckily she didnt turn around too often or i would end up crying! (from the yawning tears - just clarifying).

she also showed me the old database system which they used up to like ... 6 months ago or something. omg it looked so old! it was like the command prompt on our computers! i couldnt remember what it was called so i googled opposite of gui lol and apparently it's caleld a command line interface. i dont even recall that at all ... i must have really really bad memory that i entirely forgot it!

urgh. well afterwards, at 4, when i got to walk back to my workstation my mouth was sore. not as sore as after the history and geography sc ... i found out that when i'm nervous i actually grit my teeth for the whole exam. that's like 2 hours of continuous teeth gritting. i couldnt bite properly after that for a few hours haha! sadly Joe and  Kay had left (i didn't get to say bye!) so i couldnt get him to sign my sheet thing ....

and i love the massive printers that are like the size of me. you know those ones? yeah. today i tried to not-awkwardly crouch down and watch how it photocopied a double sided sheet .. it was so cool :) but i was confused cause there's this one thing that's in the way of the papers coming out and im confused about what it does =/ it's like ...

there was actually one thing that i thought of and it sounds absurd. maybe (cause it scraps the paper when it comes out) it makes a sound so when you're standing (you cant see this bit if you're standing) you can get feedback and know that the paper's actually printing ...
tomorrow last day :( awwww. i would willingly make coversheets and gain money from it. it's fun :) writing the day and printing coversheets and attaching them and then arranging like 29837602 papers into alphabetical order. i just realised how repetitive it actually is, but i like it :) tomorrow im gonna enter some statements of claim or something into the database =/ i really enjoy overhearing snippets of office conversation and i find myself just smiling while working ... a bit like talking to katherine on msn :) to others im endlessly smiling to my computer!

i also noticed that some people often use the office phone to do stuff that's not really court-related. like making physio appointments, trying to get a renovating quote, calling family members, etc. but obviously they're really quick, harmless phone calls :) its actually really cute and it just shows how everyone feels so at home here :) ehe im listening to asian music on my asian mp4 player cause today i feel like asian drama sound tracks. yes i randomly feel like different (often VERY different) music everyday.

im sure no one's gonna read all these posts cause they're just slabs of text 8D let's just leave this so i can read about my work experience experiences when im older :D so blogger, you better not suffer server failure or something. you will wreck heaps of people's lives :@

  2. just realised that the thing might be used to see if there's any paper going through. cause if there's no paper even if the printer's 'printing' the thing wont move.

but that wont make sense cause then it'll be printing on itself and there'll be a mess unless the absence of paper is detected earlier =/
